New Year's resolutions for muslims(Celebrating New Year'14)

Dear brothers! Allah swt. Created us and he created life and death. Also, he created the jamanah/the period to which is given to us the test of life and death. He divided the period into days, months, and years. What Allah swt. Is saying 9:36 “Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah”

In this verse we found Allah swt. gave us 12 months. the days, months comes and  goes but, whoever will be able to use this life in the right way he will be successful here and in the hereafter. What Allah swt. Saying in 103: 1. “I swear by the time 2.Most surely man is in loss 3.Except those who believe and do good, and enjoin on each other truth, and enjoin on each other patience”

Dear brothers! Today 3rd of January and This is the first month of the Gregorian calendar. Means the New Year started. Which knocking us we are One Year Close to the Grave. One more Year of our lives has come to an end. If our actions were evil, and we were treading the path to Jahannam, we have now come one year closer to our final abode. And if we were doing good deeds, we now have one year less to acquire our goal.

When a new year comes to a merchant or businessman at the end of the financial year a businessman takes account to see how much profit or loss he has undergone. He try to start the New Year with new plans, new menus to improve their business.
Likewise, we have also been sent into this world as tradesmen. Life and wealth are our commodities through which we need to earn Jannah. 9:111”Verily Allah has purchased from the believers their souls in return for Jannah.”

We as a Muslim the New Year weather its bangla or English  comes to us we should not celebrate but, to think ourselves how much good deed have we done? And how much were we obedient to practising Allah’s orders in the past year? And a new year means to us to make lots of repentance for our misdeeds and should feel regret for whatever misdeeds we did in the past year, knowingly or unknowingly.

Thereafter we should plan to spend the New Year by setting goals like i won’t commit any sins and strictly determined that I’ll make these plans practical into my daily life, in seeking the pleasure of Allah.

So first goal is Taking Account on Daily basis:

In reality, to take account of ourselves on an annual basis is not adequate. This is why we have been advised to do the mu’hasabah (self-assessment) daily. The method of making mu’hasabah is to take some time out and ponder upon the deeds done throughout the day. And ask yourselves 1.Was the act according to the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam?

2. Was the act done with sincerity only for the sake of Allah or were there other motives behind the action?

If good was done then one should thank Allah and resolve to continue; and if sin was done then one should repent and resolve to abstain from repeating the sin in the future.

The great Companion Umar radiallahu anhu alluded this point when he said:”Take account of yourselves before Allah takes account of you. Weigh your deeds before Allah weighs them. And prepare for that day when your deeds will be presented in the great court of Allah”. On that day Allah will ask [It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant." (17:14)
Then 99“That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds. (6) So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, (7) And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.”

The two most important things should be included to our new year plans which are:
1. We will try to avoid whatever we are forbidden to do and we will do whatever we obliged to do:  like we are not allowed to get ourselves involved in any haram things. So, we should be determined to stay away from any kind of haram things in this New Year. Because, Allah swt. Doesn’t accept any IBADAH while we are involve in haram. What prophet sw. Saying narreted by abi hurairah RA. “Allah swt.Is clean means pure and he doesn’t accept any impure things and he commanded to the believers to have halal the way he ordered to his prophets to have halal”

So, staying away from harams or leaving the harams which already involved with; this should be included to our new year’s plan.

2. We will try to increase the Quranic/Islamic knowledge:

We are committing some sins unknowingly what we can avoid by increasing our Islamic knowledge. How important the seeking knowledge is i don’t think i need to explain it. If we see our surroundings we can find every single things are under control by the power of knowledge and as a Muslim obviously, it has to be the Quranic knowledge. We are committing some sins unknowingly  if we have proper Quranic knowledge we will be able to fight back to the SHYTAN otherwise, he will lose us and take us the way of jahannam.  There is a hadith prophet sw. Saying “a Quranic knowledgable person are stronger against shaytan more than thousands of good doers than he who has no proper Quranic knowledge”
So, Let’s think about ourselves where is my position? Do i know who I am? What’s my duty towards Islam? Do i know the meaning of kallimah/shahadah? Do i know how to recite the Quran? If don’t i should learning Qur’an from today. Please, come forward to learnl the Quran and sunnah.
Dear brothers! The days, the months, Years will come and go but, the time and tide waits for none. So let’s take advantage five things before they go out of our hands. What prophet sw. giving advice to a person. Take heed of five things before five others.
1. Youth before old age 2. Health before sickness

3. Wealth before poverty 4.time before business 5.Life before death.
May Allah swt. take from us as easy account!
May Allah swt. give us tawfiq to be more practicing rather than last year!
